NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Joe Cox Jr., 84, of the Springfield community, who died Monday, April 4, 2016, in Jackson, will be 11:30 a.m. today at the Cox Family Cemetery in Springfield with the Rev. Spruce Derden, the Rev. Russell Wagoner and the Rev. Mickey Alexander officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Cox was born Feb. 17, 1932, the son of John Joseph Cox and Lillian Beach Cox.
He was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church and his love for the Lord was strong.
Mr. Cox’s calling was helping others. He loved the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing. He loved operating heavy equipment and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carece Rushing Cox; one daughter-in-law, CeCe Cox; five brothers, James Cox, John Cox, Leslie Cox, Chester Cox and Leon Cox; and six sisters, Mary Jo Cox, Dottie Holloway, Margaret “Posse” Fife, Audrey Cox and Agnes Cox.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Cox and Joey Cox of Vidalia; one brother, Earl Cox of Natchez; six grandchildren, Randi Cox of Vidalia, Amber Stallings of Waynesboro, Ronnie Cox Jr. and wife, Lisa, and Craig Cox and wife, Tina, all of Natchez, Jessica Evans and Lee Cox; and seven great-grandchildren, Caleb Cox, Zack Cox, Arrah Breann Cox, Cade Cox, Drake Cox, Ethan Evans and Emilie Evans.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Cox, Eddie Lee, Preston Clark, Caleb Cox, Zack Cox, Cade Cox and Drake Cox.
Honorary pallbearers will be Doug McIlwain, Jack McCall, John Hill and Chuck Mayfield.
