NATCHEZ — Three Adams County residents were arrested on child abuse charges after law enforcement officials say the three were found in possession of drugs around children.
Jayme Alexandra Beckham, 23, Bobby Lee Polk, 27, and David Michael Polk, 25, all of 321 Cranfield Road, were arrested Wednesday on charges of child abuse, possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrests happened after Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call from the manager of a service station on Liberty Road, who said a silver car was parked at a pump and the occupants “were under the influence of something,” deputies reported.
When deputies arrived, “Bobby Polk was lying on the ground on the passenger side of the car with his head on the floor board,” deputies reported. “(Jaymie) Beckham was seated in the back seat with two small children. All three subjects were under the influence of something and not coherent.”
Deputies found a partial marijuana cigarette in plain view, as well as a small bag of suspected marijuana in the vehicle. When deputies asked if they were OK, “Beckham said that they only smoked part of a blunt,” deputies reported.
Beckham and both Polks were booked into the Adams County Jail after being cleared medically.
When the three were arrested, the two children were turned over to a parent, the report said.
