A social affair, Swiss style, planned for Friday will present an opportunity not only for Natchez’s adult revelers, but also for the region’s less privileged children.

Author Greg Iles and his wife Caroline will open their home, the Swiss-style chalet, Edelweiss, to guests for the Sunset Serenade to benefit Natchez Children’s Services.

The party begins at 6 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at the door or in advance from www.ntzchs.org.

Event coordinator Betsy Iles, whose mother, Nancy, is the director of Natchez Children’s Services, said she wanted to host the fundraiser to honor the children’s home’s bicentennial and Natchez’s tricentennial.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Greg Iles and special guest Walt Grayson of WLBT in Jackson are expected to attend.

“No one has seen the inside of the house since Greg purchased it and remodeled it,” Betsy Iles said. “(Greg’s) turned it into quite the gem on the bluff.”

Hopefully, Betsy Iles said, the party will take place outside, so the house can be open for tours during the event. In case of rain, the festivities will be moved inside the historic house.

“It’s a good old Natchez party,” Betsy Iles said. “Anyone from Natchez will understand what I mean when I say that.”

Guests can expect food, drinks and live music by guitarist and songwriter Jason Swanson, Iles said.

A ticket includes a complimentary beer or wine from the cash bar. Valet parking will be available, and attire is business dressy.

“It’s not cocktail or anything like that,” Betsy Iles said. “It’s music, food and a good time. Very relaxed.”

Edelweiss sits at the corner of Broadway and Washington streets.
