NATCHEZ — Services for Josephine R. McQueen Jackson Gamble, 85, of Natchez, who died Friday, April 15, 2016, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Union Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Melvin Jackson officiating.04:22 JosephineRMJGamble obitpic

Burial will be Monday at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 5:45 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 6 p.m.

Visitation will continue Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.

Mrs. Gamble was born April 13, 1931, in Newellton, La., the daughter of Joseph McQueen and Phoebie Taylor McQueen.

She received her general equivalency diploma, associate’s degree from Natchez College, a bachelor’s degree from Alcorn State University and a master’s degree from Jackson State University.

Mrs. Gamble was also a board-certified cosmetologist.

She was retired from Adams County Head Start as a teacher and assistant coordinator.

Mrs. Gamble was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a choir member and member of the mother’s board. Her hobbies included cooking, caregiving, reading, styling hair, decorating and arranging flowers.

Mrs. Gamble was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, William R. Jackson and Edward Gamble; one son, Eddie Lee Jackson; stepson, William E. Anderson; five sisters; six brothers; and her best friend, Artimese West.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Melvin Jackson and wife, Irma; one daughter, Patsy M. Jackson Simpson White and husband, Don; four adopted sons, Roderick Simpson, Eddie Simpson Jackson, Dujuan Gamble and Keyon Gamble; spiritual mother, Inell Lyles; special sister-in-law, Edith Jackson; goddaughter, Taahira McCullough; extended family, Tony Johnson, Linda Fletcher, Joyce Mathis, Evette Hooker, Joe Burl and the Pork family of Detroit; and a number of other relatives and friends.
