LONG BEACH — Natchez High School’s baseball season has come to an end.
The Bulldogs fell on the road to Long Beach High School Saturday 8-2, giving the Bearcats a 2-0 series sweep.
Despite the first-round exit, Natchez coach Dan Smith said he was pleased what his squad managed to accomplish in just his second year.
“We have to something to build off for next year,” Smith said. “As a coach, you always want to do better. But I’m proud of the kids and the community for getting behind the team. Most importantly, I’m proud of the parents … it took everyone.”
Long Beach’s two big innings came in the third and the fourth.
Natchez scored its two runs in the seventh after Jatavis Melton smacked a two-run single, scoring Travez Lylez and Jeremy Myles.
Natchez finished the year with a 12-14 record.
