COLUMBIA — Services for Jack Russell Hyatt, 62, who died Friday, April 22, 2016, will be 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church of Columbia.
Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Hathorn Funeral Home in Columbia.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Hyatt was born Feb. 1, 1954, in Columbia, the son of George Robert Hyatt and Maryann Hyatt.
He was a graduate of Columbia High School and attended Mississippi State University and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in geology. He was an independent geologist known as “Rock Doc.”
Jack had lived in Natchez and Ferriday. He was an Eagle Scout.
He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed gardening. He will be remembered as a loving dad and a humorous man who enjoyed a good joke.
Mr. Hyatt was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his mother; two daughters, Dr. Erin Peeden and husband, Jonathan, and Hannah Hyatt and fiancé, David, and their mother, Mary Lou McGehee; one brother, Mark Robert Hyatt and wife, Nita; one sister, Susan Hyatt Pool and husband, Percy; one niece, Jennifer McGlothlin and husband, Kyle, and their children, Kaden, Whitt and Sydney Anne; and one nephew, Joshua Robert Hyatt and wife, Jill, and their children, Isabelle and Luke Robert.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Natchez Children’s Home or Boy Scouts of America.
