NATCHEZ — Services for J.W. Burchfield, 87, of Natchez, who died Monday, May 9, 2016, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Purvis officiating.

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Burchfield was born Aug. 23, 1928, in Itta Bena, the son of James Wade Burchfield and Dura May Burchfield.

He was retired from International Paper Company. He was also the former owner of Burchfield Butane, Burchfield Amusement, Burchfield Electronics and Idom Vacuum.

Mr. Burchfield enjoyed gardening and sharing it with others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frankie Irene Burchfield; one son, Luther Wade Burchfield; and three brothers, William Burchfield, James Everette Burchfield, and Bobby Gene Burchfield.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ann Burchfield; one daughter, Cynthia Hall and husband, John, of Leland, N.C.; four sons, Larry Burchfield and wife, Carolyn, and Chester Burchfield and wife, Kimberly, all of Natchez, Ricky Burchfield and wife, Jenny, of Alvin, Texas, and Vincent Burchfield and wife, Tiffanie, of Lakewood, Wash.; nine grandchildren, Amanda Merritt and husband, Brian, and Chasity Skates and husband, Jered, all of Brookhaven,  Kristie Cole and husband, Richard, of North Carolina, Boo Burchfield and wife, Kristi, of Vidalia, Melissa Burchfield, Patrick Burchfield and wife, Katie, Wade Burchfield, and Kyle Burchfield, all of Texas, and Piper Rose Burchfield of Lakewood, Wash.; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Billy Burchfield of Jackson, La., Allen Burchfield of Natchez and Dan Burchfield of Hammond, La.; two sisters, Shirley Hodges of Itta Bena and Delores Mullins of Ferriday.

Pallbearers will be Jered Skates, Paul Eidt, Ray Skates, Boo Burchfield, Wade Burchfield and Patrick Burchfield.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bubba May, Bill Welsh, Spanky Felter and Jerry Spears.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
