Grennell is best choice for mayor

Voters in the City of Natchez will head to the polls again Tuesday to officially elect aldermen — none of which have direct opponents on the ballot — and choose between two mayoral candidates.
Democratic primary winner Darryl Grennell will face independent candidate Eric Junkin in the contested mayor’s race.
Both men seem to have the best interests of the city at heart. Both seem to share a passion for the city and for treating residents fairly.
But when the candidates’ positions, backgrounds and abilities are studied, a clear winner emerges.
Darryl Grennell’s experience — many years as a college instructor and nearly two decades as a county supervisor — makes him the clear choice.
Grennell hits the marks with us on all the important points we seek in a local elected official.
He’s smart.
He’s genuine.
He seems to care about Natchez deeply.
He knows that race, class and other things that often divide us have no place in a modern Natchez. By working together, he knows the area can flourish again.
For that reason, he earns our endorsement in Tuesday’s election, and we hope others will agree that he’s the best choice to lead Natchez forward.
