FERRIDAY — Services for Howard “Myles” Hopkins, 70, of Ferriday, who died Monday, June 6, 2016, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, will be 11 a.m. today at Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mr. Hopkins was born Saturday, Jan. 12, 1946, in Natchez, the son of Jack G. Hopkins Sr. and Marjorie Rabb Hopkins.

He grew up in Waterproof and was a graduate of Waterproof High School.

He was also a graduate of Louisiana Tech University as a certified public accountant and continued to be a loyal fan of LA Tech.

Mr. Hopkins was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Myles served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Guam. He was a past president of the Ferriday Rotary Club and continued to be an active member and served as past president of Huntington School Board and the Ferriday Chamber of Commerce. He was “honorary mayor” of the Panola Woods Subdivision.

Myles was also a member and treasurer of Jackson Point Hunting Club and a member of the Ferriday Jaycees. As a member of Sevier Memorial United Methodist Church, Myles served on the finance committee and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee.

He was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Myles was a partner in Switzer, Hopkins and Mange, CPA Firm before joining Silas Simmons and Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Gibson Hopkins Jr.; and one sister-in-law, Katherine S. Thomas.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Genevieve Hopkins; one son, Benjamin Myles Hopkins and wife, Lissa Grantham Hopkins, of Ferriday; one granddaughter, Henlee Marie Hopkins of Ferriday; one brother, Mike Hopkins and wife, Brenda, of Natchez; two brothers-in-law, Audley Smith and wife, Peggy, and Allen R. Thomas; and two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Gandy and Mary Helen McCoy and husband, Michael.

Pallbearers will be James King, Bobby James. Tom Milliken, Barry Maxwell, Bill Colvin and Mike Rabb.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Switzer, Billy Rucker, Dr. Robert Freedman, Dr. Maurice Gremillion and Jerry McDonald.
