NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Amon Carwile Jordan, 95, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in Baton Rouge, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Matthew Covington, the Rev. Noelle Read and the Rev. Denny Read officiating.

Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jordan was born Oct. 14, 1920, in Campbell County, Va., the daughter of Howard W. Carwile and Meyda Carwile.

She married Bernard Chandler Jordan Jr., on Dec. 22, 1943. After the war, the couple moved to Natchez.

Mrs. Jordan spent her life in devotion to her family, friends, church and community. Among her many achievements were being elected the first female elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Natchez, serving as a charter of the Natchez Junior Auxiliary, presiding as president of the Natchez Garden Club and serving as president of the Natchez Cemetery Board. She was also honored to have been named a Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chandler Jordan; one son, Frederick Chandler Jordan; one grandson, Michael Chandler Easley; one son-in-law, James William Petty; her parents; and five siblings.

Survivors include three children, Elise Stari and husband, Dan, Sarah Easley and husband, Mike, and Chandler Jordan and wife, Lou Ann; nine grandchildren, Jamie Belinne and husband, Jarvis, Amon Easley, Frederick Stari and wife, Rachel, Jordan Stari, Laura Houseal and husband, John, Austin Easley, Ashlyn Jordan, Miller Jordan and Sarah Grace Jordan; six great-grandchildren, Dustin King, Hannah Belinne, Mary Elise Stari, Chandler Stari, Foster Houseal and Sarah Jordan Houseal.

She was like a second mother and grandmother to countless friends who also survive her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Natchez Cemetery Association, the First Presbyterian Church of Natchez or the Preservation Society of Ellicot Hill.
