FERRIDAY — Services for Herman Ray Smith, 74, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at Riverland Medical Center, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Cullumn and the Rev. Ron Ferrington officiating.
Burial will follow at South Central Cemetery in Wisner, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 4, 1941, in Pineville, La., the son of John Curtis Smith and Mary McKennzie Smith.
He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith was retired from the Town of Ferriday Fire Department after 46 years of service with 25 years as fire chief.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Albert Smith; and five sisters, Mary Baker, Lois Johns, Freddie Andrews, Juanita Gilbert and Katherine Merrith.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth Cain Smith; one son, Terry Ray Smith and fiancée, Kathy Farmer of St. Joseph; three daughters, Tanna Davis and husband, Vidal, of Natchez, Sherrie Morace and husband, Thad, of Wesson and Becky Smith and fiancé, Jules Morgan of Ferriday; and one sister, Evelyn Ferrington Ellerbe of Monroe, La.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ben Blackmon, Lynn Platt, Stanley Dawson, Nolan Cothern, Roy Doughty, Edwin Beach, Charles Cain and Zach Morace.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allan Cupit, Randy Maxwell and Richard Cain.
