Mrs. Pat, as she was most fondly known, will be remembered by a multitude of family and friends. To her family and friends her special gift was the ability to love — her heart had no boundaries.
Ike and Pat Milligan were long time foster parents for the state of Louisiana where they invested in multiple children’s lives. This mission was also extended to all of her children’s friends. Their goal daily was that no child they knew was scared, unloved, hungry, dirty, tired or most importantly homeless. Love and safety were offered to anyone who entered their door no matter where they came from or who they “belonged to.” Once you were their child, you were their child forever, even after moving on to other homes. Prayers and thoughts for these children never stopped. In addition to unconditional love and acceptance, all who entered their home were encouraged and shown how to stand tall against the world and make their place in the world.
In addition to raising her own family, Mrs. Pat also ran in-home day care for local working mothers. These were Mrs. Pat’s “babies” as well. There are too many children to list, however, she cherished being part of their lives.
Mrs. Pat, although not formally schooled, had wisdom to impart about life. The most important thing she did everyday of her life was pray for those she knew and loved. A true prayer warrior to the very last — her ability to know exactly how, what and when to pray was another of her special gifts.
Mrs. Milligan was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Cazzie and Maggie Brown; five sisters, Mary Lee Morgan, Dorothy Boyer, Katherine Malloy, Daisy Warden and Esther Brinkley; and one daughter-in-law, Pam Milligan.
Survivors include eight children, Jack Milligan and wife, Pam, of Willard, Ohio, Steve Milligan of Olive Branch, Kimberly McAndrews and husband, Mark, of Natchez, Rosemary Arnold and husband, Stephen, and Kimberley Gill, all of New Iberia, La., Joe Carlos and wife, Brandy, of Beaumont, Calif., Keith Milligan of Winnfield, La., and Melissa Junk of Anderson, Ind.; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. Barry Tillman, Dr. Charles Borum, Dr. Scott Wolfe, Glenburney Health and Rehab Center staff and Camellia Hospice Agency for their care of this very special lady. There are not words to express how grateful we are as a family to these outstanding caregivers.
