Take time to appreciate good news

As this year’s presidential election season begins its daily march to November, let’s take our minds off the contentious chatter from national news and social media to appreciate some of the good things happening in our community:
– In response to the killings of police officers in Baton Rouge and Dallas, community members from the Miss-Lou gathered to show their appreciation and support for local law enforcement last week. During two separate services on the Vidalia Riverfront, area residents joined together to lift local officers and deputies up in prayer. With blue ribbons, Westover residents demonstrated their show of support by tying the ribbons around their mailboxes. Other residents have personally delivered food and gifts to area police departments and sheriff’s offices. Thanks to the actions of residents, no doubt exists that our community supports and appreciates our officers who put their lives on the line every day.
– The annual Minorville Jubilee marked 25 years of neighborhood harmony and community involvement. The day began with a march down Minor Street and then a prayer service to give thanks and sing songs of praise. The afternoon was filled with summer fun thanks to delicious food and the cool spray from a fire hydrant. Congratulations to all who continue to make the Minorville Jubilee successful.
– The YMCA kicked off its involvement with local recreation efforts with its first official function in Natchez. The Metropolitan YMCAs of Mississippi and the Adams County Recreation Commission hosted a family movie night at Duncan Park. Organizers say the movie night is just one effort to help families make spending quality time together a priority. Let’s hope movie night is a bright beginning for this important partnership.
As we enter a new week, let’s remember to always look for those who make our community special.
