The Vidalia 14-and-under All-Stars used the home run ball to power their way to two wins Sunday at the Little League Southwest Regional.
The all-stars beat Deming 15-1 in the morning, then followed that up with a decisive 9-1 win over Texas West.
In the opener, Shelbi Cross, Sarah Cockerham and Alyssa Howard each smacked home runs, with Cross’ and Cockerham’s shots driving in three-runs each.
Cross added a second homer later in the game, while Shelby Mason provided a spectacular double play off a line drive.
In Game 2, Howard tossed a complete game, striking out eight batters and launching a home run to power her squad to the win.
“Our bats really came alive,” Vidalia coach Leigh Anne Mason said. “I think after the first game (a loss Saturday), we got our jitters out, and we came out hot today. We’re a totally different team right now.”
Not to be outdone, Makenna Patt had multiple hits in each of the wins while also providing stellar defense behind the plate.
“I’m very proud of the way she’s been catching,” Mason said.
The all-stars concluded pool play Sunday and begin bracket play at 1 p.m. today against an opponent still to be determined.
