Makenna Patt smacked a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning that scored Savannah Spear from second base to give the Vidalia 14-and-under All-Stars a 5-4 win over Texas West to advance to the championship game of the Little League Southwest Regional.

The single capped a furiously rally that had the all-stars rally from a 4-1 deficit heading into the bottom of the sixth.

“It was super emotional especially going into the sixth and we were down 4-1,” Vidalia coach Leigh Anne Mason said. “I pulled the girls aside in the dugout and told them that this was our time and to start swinging the bat.”

And swing they did.

Alyssa Howard smacked a leadoff home run, and Shelbi Cross later launched a two-run shot to tie the game.

While the Vidalia bats waited to heat up, pitcher Shelby Mason kept Texas West at bay, logging 5.2 strong innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out six batters.

“I thought pitched Shelby pitched a good game,” Mason said. “They hit the ball hard, but we made some errors.”

Cross added a run-scoring single in the first.

The all-stars will attempt to win the regional at 11 a.m. today against Texas East, which won the teams’ first meeting Friday night 15-4.

“The girls are a little nervous and tense, but if we come out and hit the ball, we’ll be just fine,” Mason said. “This is something we ‘ve been striving for. We have one more game to win. We have seven innings left to play.”
