The Ferriday Gators saw their run at the Dixie Debs World Series come to an end Monday afternoon after losing to Tennessee 5-1 in a losers’ bracket game.
“We lost to a team that we beat earlier in the tournament,” coach Rut Horne said. “We only had five hits. We had 11 hits the first time we played them. We came out lackadaisical.”
Ferriday’s only run came in the top of the first inning. Cassie Gonzales doubled and scored on a Tali Beard single. Beard went 3-for-3, Gonzales was 1-for-2, and Bailey Book went 1-for-3.
Gonzales, Beard and Book each pitched two innings for Ferriday.
“Tennessee just outplayed us today. They got some hits. They didn’t leave anyone on base, and we did. We left the bases loaded twice,” Horne said. “We had our chances to make it interesting. They played a good game.”
Horne said Tennessee’s outfield made sure every deep fly ball stayed in the park.
“(Tennessee) learned from their loss,” Horne said. “We’ll have wait to next year to try again.”
