Copiah Academy took advantage of three early goals to build a 4-2 lead over Adams County Christian School with approximately 20 minutes remaining until a thunderstorm stopped the MAIS soccer action Tuesday.

Copiah’s Rachel Moore poured in three goals, while ACCS’ Kayla McNutt and Halle Peterman struck for the Lady Rebels.
“Before the first 20-minute water break, I felt like my girls were tip toeing through the rain drops,” ACSS coach Jim Bob Allgood said.
However, after getting down 3-0, the Lady Rebels turned it around quickly as they rallied for two goals to trim the deficit to one early in the second half.
Allgood said despite missing several key contributors, his squad demonstrated resiliency in coming back.
“My girls fought back going into the half,” Allgood said. “We had several seniors step up. We had many opportunities, and my girls turned it on. I was a very proud soccer coach. They stepped up against one of the superior (MAIS) AAAA teams. We started to control the tempo, started winning some 50-50 balls and had some shots on goal.”
The Lady Rebels almost tied the game early in the second half after McNutt scorched a shot that bounced off the top of the goal post and bounced straight down but never crossed the line for the equalizer.
“A few bounces didn’t go our way,” Allgod said. “We could have tied it up.”
ACCS will attempt to push its record 2-0 today when it hosts Brookhaven Academy in its district opener. Game time is slated for 4:15 p.m.
“It should be a dog fight,” Allgood said. “When we can all get the players on the same page, we’re going to have a very good soccer season.”
