Canton Academy hands Trinity its first loss

CANTON — In a contest between two of the top-five teams in MAIS Class A-AA, the top-ranked Canton Academy Panthers flexed their muscles in a 56-12 win over the fifth-ranked Trinity Episcopal Saints Friday night.
Trinity Episcopal jumped out to a quick 12-0 lead after Keyvontaye Caston returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown, and David Jackson scored on a 1-yard run with 6:02 to go in the first quarter.
However, it was all Canton Academy after that.
Kyle Kindred threw four touchdown passes, three of them in the first half as the Panthers clawed back to take a 28-12 halftime lead.
In the third, Keyshawn Clanton racked up three touchdowns.
Tink Ragsdale capped off the scoring with a 43-yard touchdown run. Kindred amassed 245 total yards of offense.
The Saints were held to 203 yards of total offense and lost two fumbles. Jackson had 10 carries for 69 yards and went 11-for-22 passing for 68 yards.
Trinity Episcopal (1-1) will look to bounce back at 7 p.m. next Friday when it travels to Gallman to take on Copiah Academy.
