JONESVILLE — A Jonesville woman was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Concordia Parish.
Louisiana State Police Master Trooper Scott Moreau said Leslie L. Smith, 41, was driving a 2012 Chevrolet pickup southbound on Louisiana 565 when she lost control, exited the left side of the roadway down an embankment and crashed into a tree.
Moreau said Smith was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 2:10 a.m on Louisiana 565 near Louisiana 600.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Moreau said LSP would like to remind motorists that properly wearing a seat belt can dramatically reduce the chance of being injured or killed in a crash.
“We ask you to take one second to buckle up,” Moreau said in a statement. “Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Not wearing a seat belt remains the leading cause of death in motor vehicle crashes.”
Troop E Troopers have investigated 35 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 40 fatalities.
