VIDALIA — While serving an unrelated warrant Friday, six Miss-Lou residents were arrested after officers observed a Vidalia man reportedly caring for a marijuana plant.
Officers went to 1102 Apple St. to serve a warrant on Pamela D. Cupit, 54, for failure to appear for a driving while intoxicated charge, Vidalia Police Department spokesman Capt. Frankie Carroll said.
As they arrived, Carroll said officers observed Allen L. Cotton, 54, 1104 Plum St., tending to an alleged large marijuana plant in the backyard.
Cotton was patted down for officer safety, and Carroll said the officers allegedly found hydrocodone, methamphetamine and marijuana in his pockets.
Entering the residence, officers found Pamela Cupit. Also inside the residence were C. Steven Bryant, Eric Walters, Steven Melton, Nancy Cupit and her 3-year-old son, Carroll said.
Bryant gave officers permission to search his residence, and Carroll said officers found drug paraphernalia, drugs and a weapon in Bryant and Pamela Cupit’s bedroom.
Bryant, 56, was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of schedule I controlled substance with intent, carrying of weapons and possession of a controlled substance, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, illegal use of a controlled substance in presence of person under 17 and improper supervision of a minor child.
Pamela Cupit, 1102 Apple St., was charged with a bench warrant for failure to appear for execution of sentence for driving while intoxicated, illegal use of a controlled substance in presence of person under 17, cultivation of marijuana, possession of schedule I controlled substance with intent, carrying weapons and possession of controlled substance and improper supervision of a minor.
Cotton was charged with obstruction of justice, cultivation of marijuana, possession of schedule I with intent, three counts of possession of schedule II controlled substance and illegal use of a controlled substance in presence of person under 17.
Nancy Cupit, 29, 1102 Apple St., Melton, 28, 426 Cherry St., Apt. 3, Natchez, and Walters, 28, 426 Cherry St., Natchez, were charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of schedule I controlled substance with intent, improper supervision of a minor child and illegal use of a controlled substance in the presence of a person under 17.
The minor child was turned over to the custody of a family member, Carroll said.
Carroll said he expected all of the individuals involved would have bonds set by a judge today. All were in jail Monday evening.
Vidalia Police Chief Joey Merrill said he was pleased with the arrest and the cooperation with the Concordia Parish Narcotics Task Force.
