Wilkinson County attempts to get back on winning path at North Pike

Wilkinson County head coach Kenneth Brown said there was a lot to like from his team’s performance in its loss at Zachary (La.), but there were still room for improvements in several areas.

“We had a good game plan against a good team. I thought we played a good game against last year’s (LHSAA) 5A state champs,” Brown said. “But we left too many points on the field. We’ve got to cash in on scores.”

The Wildcats travel to Summit to take on North Pike at Southwest Mississippi Communit College at 7 p.m. Friday.

“The game will be won in the trenches. They have a good offensive line. They like to get off the blocks and down to the next level. We have to keep them from getting off our people. If we do that, we’ll win the game,” Brown said.

Brown said his biggest concern is his defensive personnel getting off blocks and making tackles.

“Their offense is pretty much similar to what we do,” he said. “We have to tackle well.”
