Amite School Center capitalized on five Trinity Episcopal errors to earn a 13-1 road win Tuesday in four innings in MAIS softball action.
After being held scoreless through the first frame, the Lady Rebels erupted for six runs in the second inning and never looked back.
ASC added two runs in the third, and tacked on five more in the fourth.
With just two seniors on the roster, Trinity has had to rely on a bevy of underclassmen to play major roles this season, and the Lady Saints’ youth showed up in Tuesday’s game.
The Lady Saints’ were often a half step too late on a fly ball or ground ball, but also displayed plenty of promise for perhaps what lies ahead.
Sixth grader Addison Jackson, one of Trinity’s stalwart youngsters, pitched four strong innings. The youthful right-handed hurler induced six groundouts, while also recording a pair of strikeouts in competing against ACS’ varsity squad.
Additionally, Jackson laced a pair of line drives to right and left field that were hauled in, but were sharply struck.
Trinity scored its lone run in the bottom of the second when Jasmine Ivory scored after escaping a run-down situation between third base and home. The senior shortstop shuffled back and forth down the third-base line before eventually scoring. Ivory reached on a single and stole second base to get into scoring position.
Reanna Mayberry and Cate Drane each chipped in with stolen bases of their own.
Trinity will attempt to get on the winning track today when it travels to Porters Chapel.
