Brianna Henson threw a one-hitter and struck out 11 batters in a complete-game outing as the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels defeated the Simpson Academy Lady Cougars 4-1 Tuesday night.
With the victory, ACCS won the MAIS District 4-AAA championship.
“When the season started, I had a goal of being competitive in district, and we pulled it out,” first-year head coach Tate Lipscomb said. “It feels great. I’m very proud of the girls.”
ACCS took a 1-0 lead into the top of the third inning when a scoring opportunity presented itself. Henson was on third base and Shelby Mason was on second with two outs when Anna McDaniel drove them in with a base hit up the middle for a 3-0 lead. The very next inning, Henson hit a solo home run for a 4-0 advantage.
“It was a solid, all-around performance,” Lipscomb said.
Lexie Emanuel went 2-for-3 while Henson, McDaniel, Savanna Spear and Marlee Magee each had a base hit.
That would be all the run support Henson would need as she dominated the Lady Cougars in the circle from start to finish.
“She did really good. She was throwing strikes, got ahead in the count, which was good,” Lipscomb said. “When they made contact, we played good defense behind her.”
ACCS (13-9, 6-2) plays again at 5 p.m. Tuesday at home for a varsity doubleheadher against MAIS Class AAAA Madison-Ridgeland Academy.
