LA prep roundup: Sicily Island falls to Arcadia

SICILY ISLAND — The Sicily Island High School Tigers were shut out in their home opener Friday night by the Arcadia High School Hornets 22-0.
Arcadia, ranked No. 10 in the latest LSWA Class 1A football poll, led 8-0 after one quarter of play and 16-0 at halftime. The first half went fast and took less than 40 minutes to play.
The Hornets scored their third touchdown of the night in the third quarter.
Sicily Island, on the other hand, didn’t much success running or passing the ball. Tyreke Tolliver was the Tigers’ leading rusher with 67 yards on 13 carries. He also completed three of nine passes for 34 yards with one interception. Devion Dunbar was the team’s leading receiver with two catches for 35 yards.
Sicily Island (0-2) plays at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Tensas High School.
Jena 54, Block 0

JENA, La. — LHSAA Class 1A Block High School was no match for Class 3A Jena High School on the road Thursday night as the Giants defeated the Bears 54-0.
Block coach Bo Sproles could not be reached for comment Friday.
Block (0-3) plays again at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Mangham High School.
