Prep football previews: Natchez, Vidalia kicking off district schedule

Despite a disappointing 41-7 loss in its last game against Vicksburg High School, Natchez High School coach Roy Rigsby is full of confidence as his squad enters Region 3-5A play tonight at Provine High School.
“The coaches have done a great job this week in practice,” Rigsby said. “I’m proud of what we’ve done heading into the game — we’ve had great enthusiasm. Going on the road, we know all we have is each other, and we have to cling on each other and focus on making plays.
“We’ve turned the page on last week and are looking forward to this week, and I thought that was big.”
After beating Wilkinson County High School in its opener, the Bulldogs (1-3) have lost three straight games. Rigsby said perhaps the main cause for the skid is a lack of consistency.
“We have to stack good plays together,” the first-year coach said. “We’ll have a good play, then go 10 plays without another good one. We have to be more consistent.”
Provine (3-2, 1-0) enters the showdown winners of two straight, including a 35-6 thumping over MHSAA Class 6A foe Jim Hill High School last week.
“We’re expecting it to be a physical game,” Rigsby said. “We’re going to have to be physical on both sides of the ball, and we’re excited for the game.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Vidalia at Bolton
Just three games into the 2016 season, Vidalia High School is just one win short of eclipsing its record from a year ago.
If last year is any indication, that result may soon be on the horizon.
Vidalia (2-1) is traveling to take on Bolton High School (0-3), a squad the Vikings beat last year 41-7.
Both teams enter the matchup attempting to rebound from disappointing outings the week before. Vidalia lost to Concordia Parish rival Ferriday 40-8, while Bolton fell to West Ouachita 40-0.
Vidalia coach Jeff Hancock could not be reached for comment.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
