ALEXANDRIA, La. — Even though Vidalia High School had a balanced offensive attack, three turnovers proved to be costly as the Bolton Bears topped the Vidalia Vikings 20-13 Friday night.
It was the LHSAA 3-3A opener for both teams.
Vidalia had 120 total rushing yards while Tristan Weatherly threw for 139 yards and one touchdown on 5-for-12 passing. Josh Pace led the Vikings’ ground game with 88 yards on 11 carries, including a 55-yard touchdown run that tied the game early in the third quarter.
Weatherly also threw an interception, and the Vikings lost both of their fumbles.
Ken Mollett had two touchdown runs for Bolton, including the game-winning score on a 5-yard run with 4:37 remaining. He also raced past the Vidalia defense on a 62-yard touchdown run.
The Bears’ other touchdown was a 68-yard pass from Jermaine Hammond to Zach Roberts that gave them a 13-7 halftime lead.
Vidalia (2-2, 0-1) plays at 7 p.m. Friday when it hosts district opponent Avoyelles High School.
