BATON ROUGE — Services for Mary Noel Lawrence, 90, affectionately called “Mae Mae” who died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at 1:50 a.m. at St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter’s House in Baton Rouge, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater King David Baptist Church, 222 Blount Road in Baton Rouge. The Rev. John E. Montgomery II is the pastor. The Rev. LeRoy White will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:50 a.m. Saturday, both at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Carney and Mackey Funeral Home in Baton Rouge.
Mrs. Lawrence was a native of Baton Rouge. She retired from the Department of Housing at Southern University A&M College after 28 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Pinkey “Pank” Lawrence; her parents, Frank Noel Jr. and Elizabeth Terrance Noel; two brothers, Robert Noel Jr. and Oliver Noel; two sisters, Viola Gervin and Louise Thomas; one great-granddaughter, Jailyn Alaina Harris; two sons-in-law, Norman H. “Sausage” Matthews Jr. and Daniel Smith Sr.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her three loving daughters, Theresa Lawrence Smith of Houma, La., Carolyn Lawrence Matthews of Baker, La., and Dr. Freda M. Lawrence of Natchez; three grandchildren, Vanessa Draper-Harris and husband, Joseph Jr., of Houma, Terrence Ross of Houston and Norman H. Matthews III of Dallas; five great-grandchildren, Janessa Alicia Harris of Carbondale, Ill., Terriyhanna Ross of Lafayette, La., Magan Ross of Baton Rouge, Jaeda Amoni Harris of Houma and Terrica Ross of Houston; one sister, Deborah Noel Bradford of Baton Rouge; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Miles Lawrence Jr. and wife, Mary Joseph, Rosa Lee Lawrence and Richard Dean Noel, all of Baton Rouge; and a number of nieces, nephews, friends, church members and neighbors.
The family extends their thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice Carpenter’s’ House, Baton Rouge General Hospital Mid-City fifth floor and Bluebonnet ICU-C and sixth floor, Dr. Robert Moukarzel and Dr. James Waddill.
