Sept. 5, 1927 – Oct. 1, 2016
NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Camille Tedder, 89, who died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Sandy West and the Rev. John Kramer officiating.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Family Life Center.
Mrs. Tedder was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Natchez, the daughter of Ralph and Ulabelle Lehmann.
Our mother departed this earthly life to be joyfully greeted by her heavenly Father, her husband, Dr. Hugh Tedder and her son, Hugh Tedder Jr.
She led a long and happy life, taking great joy in her family and friends.
She was a graduate of Mississippi College For Women and received her master’s degree in education for Louisiana State University. At the “W,” Camille formed a lifelong friendship with 10 other women. They made time through the years for an annual visit, usually hosted by one of the women, despite illnesses, war, the occasional birth of a child and sadly, the deaths of some of the members. They remained dear friends till the end.
Camille had a lifelong passion for travel and never turned down an invitation for a trip. She was fortunate to spend a year teaching second and third grade in Regensburg, Germany, from 1953 to 1954. While teaching in Germany, she made the most of the opportunity to travel around Europe. She returned to the United States and taught school for four more years in Hattiesburg and Baton Rouge.
After a whirlwind romance, she married Hugh W. Tedder in 1955. The couple shared a love of travel and made several trips together to England, Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Spain, Belgium, Austria and Italy. They made one special trip to Asia, visiting Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. Of course, they traveled to many destinations in the U.S.
Camille kept a travel diary of each trip, recording everything she saw, did and even what she had to eat. Later in life, she enjoyed “revisiting” these places through her diaries.
Camille traveled into her late 80s, always enjoying seeing the sights and learning something new. She was a member of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for 19 years. She also was a member of United Methodist Women, was active in the Natchez Garden Club, a dedicated card player with a number of bridge clubs and found time to volunteer for various causes. The greatest joy of her life was her three sons, Hugh Jr., Ralph and Barry, followed by her grandchildren, Camille, Cameron, Susannah and Grace. She enjoyed keeping up with her family’s lives, activities and travels through phone calls, letters, emails, Facebook and even texts.
Mrs. Tedder was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years; and sadly one son, Hugh Tedder Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph Tedder and wife, Rita, of Natchez and Dr. Barry Tedder and wife, Lisa, and grandchildren, Cameron and Grace, all of Jonesboro, Ark.; and one daughter-in-law, Laura Sharp and her children, Camille and Susannah, of Colorado and Brandon.
She will be remembered for her cheerful, optimistic attitude, faith in God, joy in living, love of children, her home which welcomed everyone and her wonderful sugar cookies.
Memorial donations may be made in Camille’s name to the Jefferson Street Methodist Church.
