NATCHEZ — Services for Matiel Ruth White Johnson, 62, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Merit Health Natchez, will be 9 a.m. Friday at Zion Hill Baptist Church No. 1 with the Rev. Elmo Frye officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Natchez, the daughter of Walter White Sr. and Beatrice White.
She attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and was a retired license practical nurse.
Mrs. Johnson a member of Mount Bruin Baptist Church and served as a choir member. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting bears, traveling and puzzles.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Forrest Young; and one sister, Carrie Taylor.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Johnson; one daughter, LaTonya Sage and husband, Byron, of Texas; one son, Jaime and wife, Lilia, of Natchez; one sister, Sarah Harris of Natchez; three brothers, Walter White Jr. and wife, Leona, of Natchez, Robert White and wife, Elizabeth, of Ohio, and Charles White of Texas; three grandchildren, Malcolm White-Sago and Ebony Sago of Texas and Ashten Morales of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, former co-workers and friends too many to count.
Pallbearers will be Cotrell Scott, Leon Johnson, Gregory Carroll, Malcolm White-Sago and Byron Sago.
