NATCHEZ — Services for Charles LeRoy Weeks Jr., 69, of Madison, who died on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at St. Catherine’s Village, in Madison, will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Basilica with the David O’Connor and the Rev. Robert Dore officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.
Mr. Weeks was born July 26, 1947, in Natchez, the son of Charles LeRoy Weeks Sr. and Murle Wright Weeks.
He was the youngest of four siblings. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Natchez before entering Mississippi State University where he obtained a business degree and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. After graduation from MSU in 1969, he married the love of his life, Carol Ann Harriss. Together they moved to Memphis, Tenn., where he attended the University of Tennessee. He earned a degree in physical therapy in 1970.
Charles went to work for the University of Mississippi in Jackson, where he remained for 35 years before retiring in 2007.
Charles interests were varied. He loved classical music and music from the 50s and 60s. He could recite poetry he learned years ago. He loved to follow the politics of our country and used to have great discussions with his friends. He was a humble man that loved his family dearly and was a loyal friend. He had a real command of the English language. He loved fishing and hunting. His favorite pastime was riding his soft-tail Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was an honorable, truthful and respected man.
Mr. Weeks was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Bobby C. Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carol Ann Harriss Weeks; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Weeks Bullen and husband, Lucian Lamar Bullen III, of Natchez; one brother, George F. Souderes Jr. and wife, Anita, of Natchez; two sisters, Virginia S. Brown of Pearl and Toni S. Danser and husband, Douglas, all of Lexington, S.C.; four grandchildren, Helen Adeline Bullen, Lucian Lamar Bullen IV, Charlene Elizabeth Bullen and Isabelle Gaultney Harriss Bullen, all of Natchez; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kaiser Harriss, George Souderes III, Christian Danser, Trey Dillon, Frederick Salvo III, Noland Bullen and Matt Souderes.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Salvo, Harold Hicks, Mac Johnson, Herb Mays, Billy Geoghegan, Robert Geoghegan, Richard Harriss, Spencer Stutzman and Dr. Frazier Ward.
The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers and staff at St. Catherine Village at Siena Hall for their loving care and spiritual support, especially in the last few weeks prior to his death.
The family especially wishes to thank, Phillip Coleman and Felicia Hardge for their loyal support, comfort and friendship.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the Salvation Army, the St. Catherine Foundation or Cathedral School-Development Fund.
