NATCHEZ — Services for Evelyn W. Williams, 87, of Natchez, who died Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Williams was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Amite County, the daughter of John P. and Ruth M. Wilkinson.
She lived and grew up in the house she was born in, to a loving family and with her older sister, Emma Lee.
She was a graduate of Liberty High School and went on to attend Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Wesson where she met the “love of her life,” Jerald Williams from Georgetown. They were married in 1952 and led happy lives throughout their marriage.
Mrs. Williams loved the Lord and His church. She was a dedicated member of the Primitive Baptist Church all of her life and was a shining example of a minister’s wife. She deeply believed all her life that her place was by her husband in his work of the gospel ministry to the Lord’s people. She was faithful and tireless in that endeavor. She made her home a loving and inviting place filled with warmth and grace, just like her life. She exemplified with warmth and gentleness the hospitality of a southern lady.
She was a member of the Governor George Harlan Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII. For 36 years, she served as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at Natchez Regional Medical Center. She amassed over 10,400 volunteer service hours earning her the distinction of the most volunteer hours in the history of the volunteer program. She met everyone she encountered with a smile and a friendly “howdy do.” Her sweet Christian spirit was obvious and she never missed a chance to brighten your day.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years; and her sister.
To mourn the passing of their “Mimi” are her three children, Jerald J. Williams Jr. and wife, Jeanine, of Tampa, Susan W. Hatten and husband, W.C. “Dub” of West Monroe, La., and John C. Williams of Vicksburg; five grandchildren, Christie Hodge and husband, Josh, Emmy Johnston and husband, Tim, W.C. Hatten III. and wife, Kristin, Cara Scheppf and husband, Brooks, all of West Monroe, and Jamie Williams of Tampa; and 13 great-grandchildren.
