Block aims for second win of season

Block High School will go for its second-consecutive victory when they hit the road to take on the Montgomery High School Tigers in an LHSAA District 3-1A game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Bears got their first win in last week’s 34-22 triumph over Northwood.
The Tigers also got their first win of the season last week, knocking off LaSalle High School 30-27.
Bears head coach Bo Sproles described practice this week as being “upbeat.”
“The kids are looking forward to this game. We’re touching up on a couple of injuries we got last week,” Sproles said. “(The defense) is learning how to read a little bit. (Montgomery) has a good passing game well. We’ve got to be more physical on defense. If we tackle, we win. If we don’t tackle, we lose.”
Sproles said he is most impressed by the Tigers’ passing attack, noting that they throw the ball a lot more than most Class 1A teams do.
“They have three impressive athletes we see on film,” he said. “They’re not as big as LaSalle. I think we match up well with them. We have to control their quarterback and control their passing game. We’ve got to put the pads on somebody.”
With both teams sitting at 1-6 overall and 1-1 in district play, Sproles said the outcome will come down to which teams wants it the most.
“Montgomery is well-coached. We’re going to have to protect the ball when we’re on offense and hopefully force some turnovers when they have the ball,” he said.
