Natchez High School fell behind 16-0 to Wingfield High School after one quarter and never could get back on track as it fell 42-28 in a Region 3-5A contest Thursday night.

“We couldn’t crawl our way out of (the hole),” Natchez coach Roy Rigsby said.

The Bulldogs (1-8, 0-5) have now lost eight straight games.

Wingfield (6-3, 2-3) led at the half, 22-6.

Natchez (1-8, 0-5) quarterback Paul Hargrave started in place of injured starter Chris Scott, and the sophomore signal-caller completed 18 of 40 passes for 174 yards and three scores.

“He’s doing his best, and he’s improving,” Rigsby said.

It wasn’t enough, however, as the Bulldogs couldn’t corral Wingfield quarterback La’Andre Thomas. The senior completed 18 of 30 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns. Thomas also added a rushing score.

“He can throw the route tree,” Rigsby said. “And his mobility makes it a problem for the defense, and it’s hard to contain him.”
Natchez senior running back Ty Terrell scored three times, including two receiving scores in the fourth quarter, an 11 and 19-yard touchdowns.

All three of Hargrave’s scoring tosses came in the fourth quarter.

Wingfield led by as many as 34, 42-6.
