In a battle of last-place teams in LHSAA District 3-1A, the Montgomery High School Tigers defeated the Block High School Bears 24-12 Friday night.
Freddon Butcher had nine carries for 117 yards and a touchdown while Jamal Bell returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown. But Block’s defense once again had several missed tackles which led to big plays for Montgomery.
“We played an awesome ball game. Just came out on the short end of the stick,” Bears head coach Bo Sproles said. “Probably could’ve tackled better. Not a great defensive game. We had a touchdown taken away from us.”
Montgomery jumped out to a 12-6 lead after one quarter of play and it remained that way until the third quarter. The Tigers put up 12 points in that quarter while holding the Bears to six points.
Damon Davis led the Bears’ defense with nine solo tackles and two forced fumbles. A.J. Harbor had six solo tackles to go with a pair of forced fumbles.
Block (1-7, 1-2) next plays at Logansport at 7 p.m. Friday.
