Help make Natchez destination for arts

The power of painting is beyond understanding until you experience the magic of producing color, form and beauty on canvas.

The first year I landed in this beautiful canopy of architectural beauty and luscious greenery with its timeless and unique buildings, gardens and mighty water fronts, I had a vision that I am so happy to see  come to fruition.

For those who have not been to some of the world’s most vibrant art colonies, I can assure you that Natchez can and I pray will become a destination for artists. I long for the vision of true art lovers expressing their imagination with people of all ages, creating artwork of landscapes, people and buildings. Let us dream.

Four outstanding art painters have been invited to come to Natchez on Nov. 11 with the knowledge that this undiscovered jewel awaits them. These four artists in residence will spend one week creating paintings of the landscape of their choosing. The technique they will use is called plein air, which means “open air” in French. They will be painting in the landscape. Alongside these artists will be a group of painters copying, learning and watching in hopes of gleaning the unique tricks and techniques that this incredible opportunity offers.

A gala of extraordinary appeal on Friday, Nov. 11, at St. Joseph’s Inn at  Edgewood Plantation will celebrate this wonderful week filled with art and inspiration. The dinner menu will include wild game, vegetables, wine and other beverages, coffee and dessert.

Eric Genius, one of my favorite composers, will provide the entertainment. He will be returning by popular demand. His music is magical, and you will love his musicians.

There will be a silent auction and the artists will be bringing other work for purchase. The proceeds for this fundraiser will be going to education seminars, teaching opportunities and will open up more opportunities for art plein air retreats.

Tickets to the gala are $100 each. To  buy your tickets, go to or call Carolyn at 601-870-7717.

Again, I believe in the vision that Natchez can and will become a wonderful art destination and hopefully in the not so far future.
