Delta Charter set to have school’s 1st senior night

Delta Charter School will have its first-ever senior night Friday night when the Storm plays host to the Beekman Charter School Tigers in a pivotal LHSAA District 2-1A game for both teams.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Delta Charter (2-7, 1-5) dropped from No. 18 to No. 21 in this week’s Class 1A power ratings after Delhi High School had to forfeit wins over district opponents Sicily Island and Beekman Charter. The Tigers (3-6, 2-4) were the biggest winner of the forfeits by moving up to No. 19.
“We may get in regardless,” Delta Charter head coach Zach Rogel said, referring to the Class 1A non-select playoffs.
A win, however, will definitely send the Storm to the postseason as one of the top 32 teams.
“This is the first senior class, and it’s something we’re pretty excited about,” Rogel said. “There are a couple of ways we’re going to honor them. Hopefully, we’ll give them a win to go out with a bang.”
For that to happen, Delta Charter will have to contain Beekman Charter’s running game and make the Tigers one-dimensional. Rogel said the Tigers’ ability to run the ball is what impresses him the most.
“They have two good running backs. No. 3 (Johnny Gipson) and No. 8 (Jalen Jones) split the carries. They run hard between the tackles. We need them to throw the ball. If they run the ball well, it means we have a tough time stopping it,” Rogel said.
