Man arrested on drug charges after chase

NATCHEZ — A Baton Rouge man was arrested Thursday on drug charges after reportedly fleeing from Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies during a traffic stop.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Vernon Stevens said in a statement that deputies stopped a vehicle reportedly driving erratically near Lincoln Avenue late Thursday night.

After the initial stop, the driver and passenger of the vehicle reportedly fled from officers and threw items from the moving vehicle.

The pursuit reportedly ended on Crescent Drive when the vehicle ran into a ditch after which the driver and passenger fled on foot.

The passenger — Charles E. Lyles Jr., 30, 11320 Greenwell Springs Road, Baton Rouge — was apprehended and charged with possession of schedule I narcotics with intent to distribute, four counts of possession of schedule II narcotics, possession of schedule IV with intent, obstruction of justice and resisting an officer with force of violence.

Various narcotics were reportedly found in the vehicle.

The driver was not arrested at the scene. Warrants have been issued for his arrest. The sheriff’s office statement did not include the name of the suspected driver.
