NATCHEZ — Services for Sullivan Alexander Bernard, 93, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Sonny Montgomery Veterans Hospital in Jackson, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at George F. West Sr. Memorial Chapel at West Gate Funeral Home with the Rev. Edward Brown officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bernard was born April 15, 1923, in Adams County, the son of Henderson Bernard and Martha Bernard.
He attended Alcorn College until he joined the U.S. Army in September 1943. He was discharged from the military in February 1945, receiving the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Bernard continued his education in New York City. During his lifetime, he was employed by the U.S. government and worked in Alaska, Germany and other countries.
Mr. Bernard reading medical and history books.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, John and Robert; and four sisters, Alice, Martha, Lillian and Irene.
Survivors include two daughters, Theresa Bernard of New Jersey and Erica Bernard Littleton of Mississippi; one granddaughter, Brittany Bernard; one grandson, Eric Littleton; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
