Nineteenth-seed Delta Charter School notched a monumental 28-26 win last week when it defeated Homer High School to claim the school’s first ever playoff victory.
The Storm will have a chance to claim another prestigious win tonight when it hosts Kentwood High School in the second round of the LHSAA Class 1A playoffs.
“I think (last week) was huge,” first-year DCS coach Zach Rogel said. “It set the bar for this week and the years to come.”
The game was originally slated for Friday but was moved to tonight because of the threat of bad weather, the DCS website said.
“Everybody is excited,” Rogel said. “To be able to host is critical for us. The fans have supported us all year and continue to do so.”
Kentwood, the No. 3 seed, beat Centerville High School last week, 39-14, and boasts an 8-4 mark for the year.
“They don’t have any weaknesses,” Rogel said. “They are good at every position. They play extremely hard. They will be our toughest test of the year, but we’re ready for it.”
Rogel said the key for his team will be eliminating mistakes and his squad playing to its full capabilities.
“We have to play hard and efficient,” he said.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
