NATCHEZ — A Wilkinson County Correctional Center inmate who escaped last week from a work detail in Natchez was captured late Saturday night in Jackson.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections reported early Sunday morning that Justin Deon Lloyd, 22, was arrested without incident at 8:50 p.m. in the Westland Plaza shopping center by investigators from the department’s Corrections Investigation Division.

Lloyd now faces an escape charge in addition to his convictions of identity theft and two charges of vehicle theft in Rankin County. He received a total 25 years to serve when he was sentenced on June 16.

Lloyd escaped Wednesday from the Natchez Public Works facility, located behind the Natchez Police Department on D’Evereux Drive.

Public Works personnel discovered Lloyd missing after the work detail returned to the facility for lunch at approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The group of inmates had been working downtown to put up Christmas decorations, Ford said.

Lloyd reportedly asked to go to the restroom at the Public Works facility, located behind the Natchez Police Department, and never returned.

Lloyd had been housed at the Wilkinson County Community Work Center and assigned to Public Works at the time of his escape.

MDOC reported Lloyd is now headed back to Central Mississippi Correctional Facility, where he was initially housed following his sentencing.
