NATCHEZ — Services for Lamar Odell Felter Sr., 86, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at his residence, will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Sanders and Jack Cupit officiating.
Burial will follow at Felter Harrigill Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Felter was born Jan. 17, 1930, in Wilkinson County, the son of Ellison S. Felter and Barbara Allen Metcalfe Felter.
He served in the U. S. Army during Korean Conflict and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars-Post 9573. Mr. Felter was a member of Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church and a member of Natchez Masonic Bodies. He was retired from International Paper Company after 37 years of service.
Mr. Felter was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and musician. He leaves behind a legacy of music and love. He shared with all the knowledge that, “you should treat others the way that you would want them to treat you.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Nannie Felter, Vivian Young, Doris Havard, Bernice Nettles and Jennie Loraine Caston; six brothers, Jessie J., William Thomas, Lloyd, Ellison A., Clarence D. and Marvin Felter; nieces and nephews; and two grandsons-in law, Tyler Harrigill and Forrest Johnson.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Harrigill Felter; seven children, Lamar Felter and wife, Connie, Gail Hampton and husband, Marvin, Wayne Felter and wife, Florence, Carolyn Johnson and husband, Tim, Marilyn Alexander and husband, Woodrow, S.E. “Spanky” Felter and wife, Cathy, and Ellis Felter and wife, Sherri; 18 grandchildren, Catherine Andrews and husband, Charles, Treyce Felter, Rachael Boyer and husband, Blake, Sarah Johnson, Jason Felter, Sharon Blaney and husband, Jason, Amanda Boyd and husband, Robert, Rhonda Hudson and husband, Matthew, Serina Blackwell and husband, Randy, Alisha Hughes and husband, Dennis, Will Alexander and wife, Stacy, Crystal Isbell and husband, Trey, Dewitt Felter and wife, Katherine, Spanky Allen Felter, Candice Norman and husband, Andrew, Emily Harrigill, Alex Felter and wife, Lizzie, and Steven Felter; 35 great-grandchildren, Katie Belle, Eli, Branch, and Mary Chesney Boyer, Summer and Swayze Johnson, Raven, Jayde, and Knylon Felter, Leyton Blaney, Faith, Ava, Lacy, and Willow Boyd, Aidyn and Aubrey Hudson, Tyler, Zane, Henrietta “Henna”, and Sydney Blackwell, Brittany McFarland, Taylor and Chris Hughes, Will, Westin, and Wynn Alexander, Ethan and Heath Isbell, Jack, Lily, and Riley Felter, Matthew Felter, Jace Norman, Annellise Harrigill, and Heidi Felter; sister, Allie B. Wisner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be all grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
