MEADVILLE — Services for Henry “Carroll” Graves, 78, of Meadville, who died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Meadville, will be 1 p.m. today at Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Meadville with the Rev. Van Windham officiating.
Burial will follow at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Roxie under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
Mr. Graves was born Aug. 12, 1938, in Natchez, son of Henry and Florence Havard Graves. He was a member of Roxie Baptist Church.
Mr. Graves worked as a calendar operator at Armstrong Tire and Rubber Company for 41 years. He also served as constable for 16 years in Franklin County. He was appointed as a special deputy by the Franklin County Sheriff after his retirement from constable. He served his country in the Mississippi National Guard and was an active member of the SB Stampley Lodge No. 222.
Mr. Graves enjoyed his rabbit dogs, hunting, gardening and spending time with his family. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbye McCall Graves; and one grandson, Justin Graves.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Graves Jackson and husband, Jimmy, of Roxie; one son, Carroll “Dink” Graves and wife, Jan, of Roxie; one stepdaughter, Brenda Whitehead of Natchez; two stepsons, Ricky Whitehead and wife, Carolyn, of Roxie and Eddie Ray Whitehead of Brookhaven; two sisters, Peggy Graves Arnold and husband, Reggie, and Mary E. Graves Brown and husband, Robert, all of Roxie; four grandchildren, Faith Jackson, Jeffrey Graves, Brittney Graves Westbrook and husband, Todd, and Ethan Graves; four great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Pam Arnold Rushing; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Hunt, Dennis Shell, Chris Shell, Chris Roider, Paul Arnold, Bill Halford and James Newman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cleo Buie, Eddie Walker, Ronnie Harper and Al Johnson.
The family extends a special thank you to Cleo Buie for his many years of dedicated help. And a special thank you to the staff of Franklin County Memorial Hospital.
The family further extends a special thank you to granddaughter, Faith Jackson, daughter, Susan Jackson and sister, Peggy Arnold, for their many hours of dedicated care to their father, grandfather, and brother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Graves’ name may be made to Union Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 3488 White Apple Road, SW, Roxie, MS 39661.
