Former Natchez High School player Justin Hamilton signed a contract Monday to play professional football with the Philadelphia Eagles.
After graduating from Natchez in 2011, Hamilton went on to play at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He played all four seasons with the Rajun’ Cajuns as a defensive tackle and recorded 102 tackles, including 14 sacks. During his senior year, he was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference.
Following his time at ULL, Hamilton went undrafted but signed to the Buffalo Bills on May 3, 2015. He was waived from the roster, however, on Aug 31.
Since then, Hamilton also signed to the practice squad for the Green Bay Packers in October of 2015. He was then released on Nov. 10.
Seven days later, Hamilton found himself on the practice squad for the Seattle Seahawks. For the next several months, he was waived and re-signed six times to the practice squad until he signed a futures contract on Jan. 19, 2016.
On Sept. 5, 2016, Hamilton was waived from the Seahawks and signed back to the practice squad the next day where he would be waived and re-signed one more time before receiving his chance with the Eagles.
Philadelphia went 7-9 this year under first-year coach Doug Pederson.
