Spring blooms with good news in the Miss-Lou

The Miss-Lou landscape continues to change from winter’s grays and browns to spring’s bright greens and colorful pastel hues.  As the continued mild weather shows winter an early exit, let us remember some of the good news from last week:

-Concordia PAWS Inc. hosted a first fundraiser at Haney’s Big House in Ferriday Saturday. The event raised money for the new parish animal shelter and for the care of rescued dogs. Free obedience training and micro-chipping of pets were offered during the event. Thanks to all who came out to support this new organization that is addressing a serious need in the community.

-High School basketball season is nearing its end and several local teams are still in the hunt for a state championship. As Natchez High School gets ready for district tournament action, several schools in MAIS are looking to win their ticket to the MAIS state tournaments. Girls’ teams from Cathedral, ACCS and Trinity and boys’ teams from ACCS and Trinity enter their South State Tournaments with high hopes.Ferriday is set to host a playoff game Thursday. Good luck to all teams as they compete with the best in the state.

-For the second consecutive year, Natchez potters and area clay artists have come together to fight hunger. Beautifully crafted bowls were filled with delicious gumbo as part of Empty Bowls. For a $25 donation to the Natchez Stewpot, those who attended picked out bowls to take home after they ate lunch. Proceeds from the 300 tickets sold for the event went to feed the area’s hungry. Thanks to those who created the bowls and those who contributed to such a worthy cause.

Remember to thank all who work hard to make our community great.
