Dwight Woods resigned as head football coach of Ferriday High School Thursday, Ferriday principal Joyce Russ said.
Russ said the reason Woods resigned was for personal reasons.
“It’s unfortunate he had to resign,” Russ said. “He’s done an awesome job, and I wish him the best.”
Russ said she hasn’t given the hiring of a new coach much consideration. Russ said, for now, she will lean on the current staff until a new head coach can be hired.
“The guys are going to need to get into the weight program, and we’re going to use our assistants in the spring to help bridge the gap,” she said.
Woods took over as head football coach two years ago and guided the Trojans to a playoff berth in both seasons. This past year, Woods and the Trojans posted a 9-4 record and reached the LHSAA Class 2A quarterfinals.
“He’s going to be missed by me, the faculty and the students,” Russ said.
Ferriday also recorded a share of the District 2-2A title with a 4-1 mark.
