Trinity girls fall to Marshall Academy in semifinals, 63-31

Marshall Academy dominated Trinity Episcopal in the first quarter and never looked back as the Lady Patriots defeated the Lady Saints 63-31 Friday afternoon in the girls’ semifinals of the MAIS Class AA State Tournament at Winona Christian School.
Led by Julia Nicholson and Blake Martin, North No. 1 seed Marshall Academy built a 25-2 first quarter lead over South No. 1 Trinity.
Nicholson led the Lady Patriots (27-5) with a game-high 20 points and Martin contributed with 18 points.
The final three quarters were closely contested, but the Lady Saints were unable to keep pace with the Lady Patriots. D’Asia Mitchell led Trinity with 14 points and Jasmine Ivory added 12 points.
Trinity Episcopal (17-11) will take on Claiborne Academy today at 1 p.m. in the girls’ consolation game with third place and a berth in next week’s Overall Tournament on the line.
