The Miss-Lou Youth Activities Association is looking to create a unique atmosphere in its basketball and cheerleading leagues.
For its third year, boys and girls ages 4 to 18 will learn fundamentals while also focusing on the aspects of team sports.
Director Nook Logan said applications are still being accepted for both leagues for at least another week.
Cost for basketball is $95 and includes a full uniform, and cheerleading will cost $45.
Logan said he likes for his basketball coaches to get to know their players for a few weeks before starting play.
“Right now, we are just getting kids in the gym,” he said. “For some kids this is their first time playing, and we want to make sure they feel connected”
Logan also said it is important for the more experienced players to set a good example.
“There is a certain vibe we want to create,” he said. All the younger kids know is what they see, and they need someone to believe in.”
Logan said his goal for cheerleading is to prepare young girls for higher-level squads in middle and high school.
“We want to get them out of their shell and keep them going and active,” he said.
Registration packets are available from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays at the Morgantown Middle School gym.
