Update: Mississippi River bridge opens after wreck blocks lanes on westbound bridge Tuesday afternoon

UPDATE: At 2:30 p.m. the Natchez Police Department reported that westbound traffics on the bridge has resumed.

NATCHEZ — At 2 p.m. the Natchez Police Department reported a wreck on the westbound Mississippi River bridge that has traffic on John R. Junkin Drive backed up from the bridge to Homochitto Street in Natchez. All westbound lanes are blocked on the bridge. Ambulances were called to the scene. Officers from Vidalia Police Department and Natchez Police Department are working to get lanes cleared to resume normal traffic flow.

The Natchez Police Department urges drivers to avoid John R. Junkin and the Mississippi River bridge area and take alternative routes if possible.
