After finishing last year with a record of 24-5, Cathedral High School baseball coach Craig Beesley knew he needed seven more wins to claim his 300th in the head job.
It just happen to come Thursday night in a victory over Natchez, 14-0.
“I’m glad we got it,” Beesley said. “It’s not all on me, though. A coach can only do so much. It takes good players, and I think our kids are playing really well right now.”
Beesley said with the win, he realizes how much he has accomplished in his 15 years, including two state championships.
“It signifies a great baseball program,” he said. “We are proud of what they accomplished and hope we can continue it in the future.”
Green Wave pitcher Connor Branton did his part in the victory by throwing a no-hitter, pitching all seven innings for Cathedral. The junior right-hander also struck out 15 batters in the win.
“You rarely see that in a full game,” Beesley said. “He pitched a really good game, and I’m really proud of him.”
Cathedral (8-3) will be back in action at 7 p.m. Monday at home vs. Loyd Star.
