David Nations rides down the Natchez Trace Parkway to meet up with other cyclists. “We’re fortunate to have The Natchez Trace to cycle on,” Nations said. “We just want all the motorist to be aware it’s a national park, not a freeway and it’s a bike route.” (Nicole Hester | The Natchez Democrat)

Cyclists installed a sign financed by The Gary Holdiness Cycling Fund on the Natchez Trace Tuesday. Holdiness was killed when he was struck by a car on the Natchez Trace just south of mile marker 156 in 2012. Similar signs will be installed all along the parkway every 25 miles and at major intersections. Holdiness’ wife, Donna spoke to the cyclists after the first sign is installed Tuesday. Here are photos from Tuesday’s ceremony.
